The view was incredible on the drive to El Chalten, a small town literally in the middle of nowhere, but the start of a hike to Mount Fitz Roy, another highlight of our trip. On the drive, you could see for miles in all directions. The earth was dry and pretty barren dotted with the occasional animal skull and bones. We drove a long time while passing a large lake with Chile's blue, Andean mountains poking through the clouds on the far side as seen below. This road was in far worse condition than any other dirt road we've been on. The gravel was deep and occasionally hit the amoured underside of the Ferrari. It was on this segment we damaged the car. Shortly thereafter the car traveled sideways at 50 mph before Niels Peter swerved sharply right, avoiding a rollover. Bert and I did more driving after that. |
